Needs, Wants and Numbers

Kindergarten started their day with Table Time rotations.

Forming letters using elastic bands and geo-boards was a big hit today.

Kash "I made the letter X"

Jax his "letter K"

Sineen "I made the letter of the week H /h/.

Arjun and his "letter I"

PM Kindergarten would like to wish Emalyn and Layla a very happy birthday.  Emalyn is turning 6 today and Layla is turning 5 tomorrow.  Emalyn, we hope you enjoy a big slice of that rainbow cake with vanilla icing.  Layla, we hope you enjoy a big slice of your special mermaid cake with blue and white icing.
AM Kindergarten continue to discuss the basic needs of all living things and the difference between needs and wants.  Students worked with a group to "act out" their basic needs.  Ask your child what their action is for: food, water, air, shelter  and sunshine.

Food performers

Water performers

Air performers

Shelter performers: a safe place to live
PM actions for : Food / Water / Air / Shelter / Sun

Coming up with a list of our wants was fun.  There are so many enjoyable things that we wish we could have but we know we can live healthy lives without.

AM student reflections

Poppy: I want candy
Sarim: I want TV
Emma: I want a giant teddy bear from Costco buy I didn't get it.
Jax: I would really want a puzzle and soft letters with letter missing (fun toy)
Ayan:  I want so many teddy bears.
Fred:  I want candy every day.

PM Student reflections

Gracie:  I want colorful crayons.
Layla:  I have a computer and it is really awesome it is rainbow.
Maisie:  You need water.  What I really really want is LOL dolls
Seth;  I want the big TV like the one in the classroom but I can live without it.
Xavier:  I want a good nerf gun
Landon: I want a watch so I can see what time it is and see my streps.

AM students sorted a variety of pictures as either a need or a want.

PM students started a new learning job.  Students are working on identifying numerals and representing numbers in a variety of ways. Today students were asked to draw fall trees and finger paint the correct number of leaves in each box: 3, 5, 6 or 8 leaves.

Students enjoyed participating in a shared reading of, Hide-and-Seek-Hippo.  Students looked for Hh words throughout the book and took turns circling pictures that start with the /Hh/ sound.

Congratulations to the Rock Stars of the Day: Maisie (PM) (Emma (AM)  will go Friday)
Thank you Maisie for sharing one of your favourite activities with PM Kindergarten: " I like to play LOL dolls because they squirt water.  I like to play with my sister and use my imagination".  Maisie answered many eager questions and received many complements from her friends.

Parent Reminder:  Tomorrow AM Kindergarten attends  (No school for PM).  We are still planning a wonder walk / leaf hunt on our way back from the playground so pack some gloves if its chilly.

Kind regards,
Mrs. Dennis
