Thursday Jan 9th: Animal Investigations

Table Time
Kindergarten started their day with 10 frames and number line math games

Our Learning Job

Today students started their investigations into animals in the winter.  After listening to an online version of The Mitten, by Jan Brett, students reviewed the animals discussed in the story. Ask your child if they remember one of the animals that climbed into the mitten to stay warm.

Students then focused their learning on one particular animal, the black bear. Students discussed how a black bear stays warm in the winter. Students viewed a short educational video to learn some interesting facts about a bear's features, diet and habitat.  Ask your child to tell you something they learned about a black bear.

Labeling a black bear.
Copying environmental print to record features, food, habitat and facts.

Fun fact: Some black bears are actually brown in colour

Thank you to AM Rock Star Sarim for presenting his special book by Mo Willems (one of Mrs. Dennis' favourites) to the class.  Students enjoyed a story about a lost tooth.  Great job.

PM kindergarten enjoyed P.J day this afternoon. (For those who did not see this information on the blog, not to worry, we will plan another P.J day soon so PM students will get another opportunity to wear P.js and bring in stuffed friends ... watch for updates on the blog)

Indoor Recess is 'snow' fun:)
 Center time fun and learning

Thank you to PM Rock Star Hassen for sharing his special dinosaur book with his classmates. Hassen's favourite dinosaurs are  the T-rex and the velociraptor.

Parent Reminder:

- AM kindergarten attends tomorrow Friday Jan 10th
- It is P.J day tomorrow.  Students are invited to wear their pajamas and/or bring in a small stuffed        toy.
- The weather is suppose to be reasonably mild so we plan to enjoy outdoor recess and a short wonder walk to visit our Kindergarten tree (in the school yard).  Please ensure your child has all the outdoor clothing they will need including gloves or mittens.

Have a lovely evening,

Mrs. Dennis
