Wednesday January 8th: Representing Numbers

Our 3rd round of Rock Star presentations was off to a fantastic start today.  Thank you to Sineen and Layla for sharing some lovely books with their classmates.  Students reviewed expectations for effective public speaking including: looking at the audience and speaking in a clear voice.
Rock Star Presenter Rubric.

Thank you to AM Rock Star Sineen and her special story about friendship, The Turtle and the Moon.
Table Time:  Counting to 10 using a ten frame

Today we started our investigation into what it means to represent numbers, starting with the number one!  What does ONE look like?  How many different ways can you represent (or symbolize) a quantity of one?  There are many other ways to represent numbers: numeral, word, number line, ten frame, fingers, tally marks, pictures, dice, dominos etc.

Thank you PM Rock Star Layla for sharing your special bedtime story book.

After listening to a shared reading of Layla's book. Students imagined what their dream animal might be:

Boston - In my dreams an elephant would be my pet
Brielle - I dream of a unicorn taking me to wonderland and there are fairies and unicorn too.
Caydence - I dream about sharks and turning into a mermaid
Emily - My dream animals is a unicorn taking me under the water to the zoo and everywhere
Akbar - My dream animal is a tiger running all the way to park.
Jace - I dream of a tiger taking me to London.
Maisie - My dream animal is a unicorn bringing me to a castle
Brayden - In my dream of a tiger taking me to Manitoba
Ashton _ I dream of Pickachu taking me to Mexico
Emalyn - I dream of a cheetah taking me all the way to Hawaii
Gracie - I dream of a unicorn taking me all the way to Wonderland.

We could use your help!   In preparation for some exciting activities, the K-team is in need of shoe boxes.  Should you have any shoes boxes in your home recycling over the next month, please send them to school with your child, any size will do. Thank you so much!

Kind regards,
Mrs. Dennis
